It’s hot and Osage City Aquatic Center is open for cooling off this summer with water aerobics, swim lessons, or just soaking in the refreshing pool. Activities are also heating up for Osage City Parks and Recreation, as it’s time to gear up for youth football and youth golf, with deadlines getting closer. See details below.

The Osage City Council is accepting Expression of Interest Applications for the appointment of Ward 2 City Council position due to the resignation effective July 31, 2022 of City Council Member Karey Heiserman submitted at the July 12, 2022 City Council meeting.  Ward 2 is the northwest quarter of the City bordered by Main Street on the south and Seventh Street on the east.  Applicants must be qualified electors (K.S.A. 14-205) of the City of Osage City, i.e. a resident of Ward 2, a registered voter of Ward 2, and 18 years of age and older.  The applicant selected will serve the balance of the unexpired term from date of appointment until January 12, 2026 following the November 4, 2025 elections.  Please submit Expression of Interest Applications to City Clerk Terri Fultz by Friday August 5, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.  The Osage City Council will review the applications and select a new City Council Member.  The Osage City Council has the right to reject any and all applications submitted.  Applications may be obtained at City Hall at 201 South 5th Street, or online at www.osagecity.com. Summer is here and Osage City Parks and Recreation is lining up some fun for the season. The Osage City Aquatic Center is open for cooling off or to participate in swim lessons or other activities at the pool. Decorations placed upon graves will be removed 15 days following Decoration Day of each year. After this date any decorations that remain will be removed by cemetery staff.

Flowers which are placed in urns which are part of a headstone and are embedded in a concrete base may be permitted at all times.

The City of Osage City will allow the burning of grass, weeds, leaves, small limbs and small branches in waterways, yards, gardens, and fence lines, which shall be permitted between the days of Wednesday, March 9, 2022 through Tuesday, May 31, 2022, provided conditions are favorable; the County does not have a burn ban in place; wind speed is not more than 10 MPH; a water hose is securely fastened to an operable water faucet, and the length of the hose available is sufficient to reach the area where the controlled burn is occurring; no fire is left unattended; and no burning is to be performed on or intersect the sidewalks, streets or gutters of City streets.

Spring is here and Osage City Parks and Recreation is blooming with activities that will get underway as soon as the water starts to warm up. The Osage City Aquatic Center, including swim team, swim lessons, and water aerobics, and youth golf and youth football camp are on the roster.

Osage City Parks and Recreation is counting on summer finally getting here, scheduling lifeguard and water safety instructor certification. Also announced are swim team tryouts and swim camp. The change of seasons also means spring baseball is upcoming, beginning with OCPR Tee-Ball for younger players.

With spring just around the corner, Osage City Parks and Recreation is getting ready for spring sports and barbecue. Baseball and softball leagues are forming this month. The Osage City community is preparing for the annual pilgrimage of BBQ cooks and judges, and BBQ lovers to the town for Smoke in the Spring 2022. The event starts off April 8, 2022 with the Taste of Osage City, a giant barbecue party in Jones Park, where everyone is invited to use their BBQ Bucks to taste the fare offered by a select group of competition chefs. The next day, April 9, will be the championship BBQ contest, celebrating its 19th year.

Osage County Community Foundation has announced that $12,700 was awarded to three non-profit entities in the Osage County area for the 2021 fourth quarter grant period. All grants issued will be used to benefit many youth and senior citizens in the area.

The foundation is now accepting applications for the first quarter grant period of 2022, which runs from January through March. OCCF makes grants for innovative and creative projects and programs that are responsive to changing community needs in the areas of health, social service, education, recreation, and cultural affairs.

The foundation offers grants through its general fund, which is made up of unrestricted donations to the foundation, and donor advised funds, which are designated for a specific purpose by the donor. As a donor supported foundation, OCCF also continues to seek donations to continue its work in supporting Osage County organizations.

Osage City Parks and Recreation is accepting signups for K-ball and first and second grade basketball. These programs are for boys and girls and teach basketball fundamentals.

K-Ball Pre-K & Kindergarten Basketball (Coed)

K-Ball is an instructional program for Pre-K and Kindergarten boys and girls. The program is designed to teach basketball fundamentals, shooting, passing, and dribbling.

1st and 2nd Grade Basketball (Coed)

The program is designed to teach basketball fundamentals, shooting, passing, and dribbling, plus good sportsmanship through team practice and game play.

Signup deadline is near for Osage City Parks and Recreation youth basketball. Youth basketball is for third through sixth grade boys and girls, and teams compete in the Scott Brown Youth Basketball League. The OCPR parks advisory board is also seeking applicants to fill three at-large board positions. See details below.
